What we were asked to do
We used a critical reflection approach to support the development of a Co-production Framework for Lambeth Together aimed at defining how co-production could be embedded in the Local Care Network delivery alliances. This was a borough-wide project with a scope that crossed many elements of the health and social care sector including the Local Authority, health and voluntary and community-based organisations.
What we did
As part of this project we undertook:
- a review of engagement, co-design and co-production activities and outcomes already in place in Lambeth and analysis of these activities against the definition and principles of co-production in use by Lambeth Together
- interviews with senior leaders and key people to understand their commitment and understanding of co-production as defined by Lambeth Together and the principles, and any barriers that exist for them
- observation of Lambeth Together, Local Care Network and other meetings to identify how the definition and principles of co-production are applied in practice
- an analysis of examples of best practice nationally in co-production for comparison
- identification of the evidence base for impact and benefits of co-production
What happened
As a result of the field work, we developed a visually impactful road map for Lambeth Together which included:
- a review of the level and extent of co-production definition and principles in action in Lambeth.
- a recommended framework for strengthening co-production throughout Lambeth’s integrated care system
- a recommended programme of work for Local Care Network delivery alliance development
- identified risks of moving to full co-production in Lambeth
We shared our findings with a wide range of stakeholders during an interactive event. Over 50 people attended; the event started with a presentation, after which we facilitated an open space where participants could reflect on what they had heard and consider and pledge actions that they could take forward as a result.
