Idea of the Month: “Work hard at listening with intent to understand, not reply”

This quote comes from Roz Davies, formerly of Sheffield Flourish, an award-winning charity and community network which aims to support people living with mental health conditions to (re)build the lives they wish to lead. It’s a project we hope to feature more on soon.

We particularly like this quote because we have been doing a lot of story-telling and listening in Dudley recenty. Through this, we’ve realised just how much the public sector traditionally controls the information they collect from their communities through the methods they use to listen. With things like assessment forms, care planning and keyworking. We think it is time to really listen without interrupting to let the community tell us the story they want to share with us, not what we want to hear.
