Idea of the Month: Make an introduction, not a referral

Make an introduction, not a referral

The Lambeth Livivng Well Network don’t receive referrals – people are introduced to them. This change in language has reinforced the move from a clinical model to a more social one. People do not become a case in the system – they retain their individuality and hence their sense of power.

Background: The Lambeth Living Well Network has been running since 2010 with people using services, carers, providers and commissioners. Check out their website to see the great things they are doing. It’s worth a look!

Key people: Denis O’Rourke and Sue Field have created really strong co-production in Lambeth.
